Resilience: Latin America Contemporary Photography
exhibition
The exhibit “Resilience”, organized by the Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with AECID and PHotoEspaña, presents the work of 10 young artists who participated in this year’s edition of “PHE Discoveries” in Latin America. For this edition, a committee designated by PHotoEspaña selected 40 projects, out of the 342 entries, to participate in the portfolio exhibit in Mexico City and Lima. The concept of “Resilience”, from which this exhibit gets its name, explores the capacity of a body to regenerate after coming into contact with external forces and recognizes its continuous acclimatization. The works in this exhibit present diverse perspectives on society and its ability to adapt and excel while being affected by continuous fluctuations. In Latin America, the creative processes come about in the midst of social, economic, and political effervescence. “Resilience” presents the work of professionals who, besides exploring the changes that happen in their environment, reflect on the role of image in our society; habitual paradigms are questioned and formats adapt to new visual codes in a moment of continuous mutation.
