General Objective

Students will be able to understand the gist of a conversation on everyday matters at a normal speed of delivery. They will also be able to express opinions using simple linguistic structures.

Specific Objective

  • Listening: By the time they have finished this level, students should be able understand pieces of information on personal experiences, and facts and events of everyday life. They will be able to understand explicit opinions. They will also be able to understand telephone conversations and extract the main information from mass media excerpts, providing it does require prior knowledge of cultural aspects.
  • Speaking: To maintain a conversation with simple grammar structures. To be able to give opinions using adequate communicative strategies.
  • Reading: Understand the main ideas in literary and press texts (informative, descriptive or narrative) and be able to infer some lexical and grammatical aspects not implied in the context.
  • Writing: Produce moderately long texts, using the most frequently used connectors to mark clearly relationships between ideas, subordination and coordination with the appropriate tone and contents.

Intermediate 1 (B1/1)

Communicative Contents:

  • Extract ideas about communication and learning techniques and strategies
  • Discuss common experiences about language learning
  • Tell anecdotes about cultural misunderstandings
  • Request and give personal information about oneself and others: personal identification, express feelings, likes and sensations
  • Evaluate people
  • Express spontaneous, difficult to accomplish desires and propose courses of action
  • Express preferences on cultural events and leisure time
  • Propose, accept and reject formal and informal invitations
  • Plan and evaluate free time activities
  • Arrange appointments

Intermediate 2 (B1/2)

Communicative Contents:

  • Request information about health matters
  • Ask people about physical or emotional states
  • Give advice on fighting and preventing illnesses
  • Respond to advice given
  • Talk about health related experiences
  • Explain the symptoms of an illness
  • Relate past actions and express the circumstances surrounding them
  • Describe past habits
  • Narrate a story from different points of view
  • Request information and hypothesize about past events
  • Evaluate hypotheses about past events

Intermediate 3 (B1/3)

Communicative Contents:

  • Describe familiar and unfamiliar objects: their shape, material, components, use, properties, etc
  • Offer and evaluate services and businesses: advantages and disadvantages
  • Make a complaint and request a service
  • Request information in public offices
  • Talk about the future: express degrees of certainty about the future
  • Express opinions and make hypotheses about future events
  • Agree and disagree. Express amazement or surprise
  • Discuss an opinion

Intermediate 4 (B1/4)

Communicative Contents

  • Express state of mind, feelings and conflicts
  • Talk about changes in people
  • Describe relationships between people
  • Request and offer actions, objects and services specifying the degree of formality
  • Express possession
  • Congratulate, thank, praise and react to greetings and acknowledgements
  • Express wishes in specific situations
  • React to news
  • Provide Information with different degrees of certainty
  • Convey formal and informal messages
  • Mark reference changes in time and space
  • Write formal and informal letters
