If you are an artist interested in submitting materials for consideration, please read the following outline as we no longer accept unsolicited promotional packages without the necessary required information. The dateline to submit a proposal is May 15 of the current year for potentials exhibits, concerts and performances for the following year. We will contact you by email in July if we have selected your proposal, otherwise we won’t contact you (no phone calls please).
Following is an outline of the required information and materials which must be submitted together with your proposal for an exhibit, concert or performance at the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago auditorium and gallery.
This should include your name, address, e-mail and a phone number where you can be reached during business hours; your education; and any past exhibits, concerts or performances and/or awards.
Slides / Digital Images
Slides: Place in a clear plastic slide sheet. You should include 12-20 35mm slides of the artwork you are interested in exhibiting. Each slide must be labelled with the following information:
Your name
Title of the piece
Date completed
Medium (e.g., oils, watercolors, pencil, etc.)
Dimensions (height x width x [for sculpture] depth)
Each slide must be numbered and marked with a red dot in the lower left hand corner. When properly labelled, the slide should look as shown in the illustration below.
On a separate piece of paper, list the slides by number with all of the information from the slide, plus the insurance value for each artwork.
Digital Images: Digital Images (12-20) must be submitted in 400-600 dpi, jpeg format. A printed thumbnail index must be provided. Please number the thumbnails and include a description page which states your name, title of the piece, date completed, medium (e.g., oils, watercolors, pencil, etc.), dimensions (height x width x [for sculpture] depth) and insurance value.

DVD of the performance. Spanish with English subtitles.
Digital images (5-10) must be submitted in high resolution, jpeg format. These images have to be free of rights. They will be used for promotional materials and media.
The sound and lighting rider
Detail budget
Descriptive details, diagrams, layout drawing or any additional support information necessary to understand the proposed work
Include a brief statement describing your artwork. It may include a discussion of your artistic goals, an explanation of your techniques, or why you think your work should be at the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago.
You may also include a minimal sample of recent reviews of previous work, photographs, a sample catalogue or the like. International proposals should also include budget information.
Keep your proposal simple—no need for fancy folders or binders.
Include a self-addressed and stamped envelope with your proposal if you want your materials returned to you after our review.
